Thermo Scientific: No Heavy Metal At Happy Hour! Part 2: Find Out How ICP-MS Can Be Used to Measure Trace Metals to Ensure the Safety of Adult Beverages

The presence and concentration of toxic heavy metals, such as As, Cd, and Pb, in adult beverages is required to ensure safety, brand protection, and regulatory compliance.

Heavy metals are contaminants in adult beverages as they have no known benefit, not essential for the taste and properties of the beverage and are known to have many toxicological and carcinogenic effects.

In Part 2 of this two-part webinar, learn about the latest innovations in ICP-MS and how the sensitivity of this technique is needed to measure trace concentrations of toxic heavy metals and other metals from the processing of adult beverages. Plus, find out how interference reduction technologies can ensure data quality and provide ultra-low detection limits.

Presenter: Sabrina Antonio (Regional Marketing Manager, Trace Elemental Analysis, North America, Thermo Fisher Scientific)

Sabrina has a BS degree in Chemical Engineering and a diverse professional experience ranging from Senior Chemical Engineer and Construction Project Manager at state and local power utilities, analytical instrumentation product and application specialist, and Lead Inorganic Data Auditor for the US EPA Contract Laboratory Program (CLP). She joined Thermo Fisher Scientific in 2015 as a Sales Specialist in the Center of Excellence and in 2018 became the Regional Marketing Manager for Trace Elemental Analysis for North America.

Presenter: Mike Mourgas (Application Scientist, Trace Elemental Analysis, Thermo Fisher Scientific)

Mike Mourgas has over 20 years of experience in the chemistry and industrial chemistry industry as a research scientist, laboratory manager, and chemist. Mike's professional background includes researching and developing new methods for biological testing to serving as the subject matter expert for the trace metals, wet chemistry, and radiological laboratories at NSF International in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Global responsibilities include leading the global inorganic laboratory training, data reporting and laboratory auditing in countries such as China, Brazil, England, and Peru before transitioning to Thermo Fisher Scientific as a North American Application Scientist for Trace Elemental Analysis.

Presenter: Jayme Curet (Application Scientist, Trace Elemental Analysis, Thermo FIsher Scientific)

Jayme graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Environmental Science. She worked for seven years in an environmental and pharmaceutical lab running ICP and ICP-MS among other things. Thirteen years ago, she made her jump to the applications group at Thermo Fisher Scientific, where she runs a variety of applications, including laser ablation on the Thermo Scientific™ iCAP™ RQ ICP-MS and Thermo Scientific™ iCAP™ PRO Series ICP-OES from her lab in Somerset, New Jersey. Jayme also supplies training throughout North America supporting customers in method development and troubleshooting.
